Nature’s Obedience

Psalms 119:64
64 The earth is filled with your love, LORD;
teach me your decrees.
ט Teth (NIV)

Nature's Obedience

Nature’s obedience teaches us a great deal The rain never goes up. The sun always rises in the East and sets in the West. The constellations hold their position. God has set parameters for creation. One of the passages that has meant to much to me on my spiritual journey is found in the book of Job as the Lord reminds Job that he is not god. The Lord asks Job this question:

Job 38:12
“Have you ever given orders to the morning,
or shown the dawn its place, (NIV)

Just as the Lord has given us commands to live by so has He given creation commands it must follow. In following the commands, nature reveals to us the love of God. We see His love in the provision as He opens the windows of Heaven to rain upon the Earth that we are sustained by water to drink and food to eat. We see His love in the beauty of creation as our eyes take in the beauty of the sunset. We see His love in the seasons renewing the Earth as He renews the soul.

Nature’s Obedience

The Earth follows His commands and because of this, it is filled with His love. The psalmist expresses his desire to live a life that exhales the love of God. Love fills the earth as it follows the decrees of God. And our life will reflect the glory of God’s love as we follow His decrees.

The difference between the sun, the moon, the rain, and human beings is that nature never argues with God. Sin is not at the heart of the ocean to rebel against the Word of the Lord, but sin has hidden itself in the heart of man. We rebel as if we know how to create our own beauty. As much as none of us could speak creation into existence neither can we forge our own path that is good. The Earth has revealed it plainly. Beauty, love, creativity, and fun are found in the decrees of God.

Lord, teach us Your ways.

Prayer

Lord, let me be reminded each morning that your ways are good, sustaining, and full of provision. Show me my sin where I stray and help me to follow Your decrees. Amen.
