This Day is Coming

This day is coming.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words. (NIV)
To know there is an end in sight to the suffering is the future hope of all believers. We wonder about the justice of God when we see the worst in humanity seem to thrive. But there is a day of reckoning. When the Father declares the time has reached its fulfillment, the promise of God is to send His Son once again. This time, He comes not as a victim of evil, but as the absolute victor over all evil.
We often echo the cry of David in the psalms. He would cry out to God, “How long?” How long will suffering continue? How long will the wicked be allowed to carry out their plans? How long will sin and the aftermath of it go on? We want to see it end and the good news is this day is coming.
Remember that for now, we exist within time, but we are not being confined by time. Our souls are eternal and there is something after this world. Hope is found in knowing there comes a time when there will be no more tears, no more pain, no more murder, molestation, rape, sickness, or shootings. These will all be replaced with perfect peace, enduring love, and joy beyond explanation. This day is coming.
We find comfort in knowing God has provided a transcendent serenity for all who put their faith in Christ. We have comfort knowing the innocent taken from us before they can truly comprehend the Gospel will receive the reward of it. The knowledge of this day does not even come close to removing the hurt and pain of this life, but it does console knowing justice will come in its time.
The Bible says that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual entities at work inflicting the suffering upon us. God calls us to an eternal perspective on this life. The apostle Paul called the pain of this life momentary. We must remember this to keep our hearts pure from a spirit of revenge and anger. There is a day coming when all will be made right. There is coming a day when our existence will be immersed in the purity of Heaven and the travail of this life will be gone. We will be with Christ forever.
Prayer: Lord, help me remember the suffering of this world is temporary. Make me bold to share Your Good News with others so that they too may know this day is coming.
