There’s still more
John 1:16
16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. (NIV)
Prevenient grace is not something that comes up very often in sermons. This is the grace we have received from birth. Grace is God’s unmerited favor. Every human being has been favored by God whether they realize it or not. They have breath in their lungs. They have good things though maybe not much. They have a sense of right wrong that God has put in the heart of every man. This prevenient grace allows a sinner to grasp the idea that God loves them. Without this grace, the idea that God loves us would never come up in our minds.
This prevenient grace leads us to the Lord where more grace is found. He gives us salvation, not because we have earned it, but the grace in Him keeps giving. But grace is still in its infancy.
Living and submitting to the movements of the Spirit according to the commands of God in Scripture allow us to see God working in our life. These blessings are the increase of grace. As we see God working, His Spirit gives us eyes to see more and more how great is God’s love for us. And we draw yet nearer to Him. And grace abounds.
Out of His fullness, we receive greater grace. The closer we move toward Him in love receiving more of His love, He reveals greater love and we move deeper. With each move into His fullness, grace abounds.
God’s ways are higher than ours. His thoughts are greater than ours. He is both an intimate friend and a God beyond our understanding. Though we will draw nearer and nearer to God, the mystery of who He is will not be revealed in full until we arrive in Heaven. Until then, there is more of Him to know, more of His love to grasp, more of His grace to experience. This is why the psalmist said the path of the righteous is like the sun rising higher and higher.
My friends, if you are enraptured with God, there is still more to know. If you are disenchanted with Him, ask the Spirit to open your eyes to see deeper into the fullness of His love because there is still more.
What a wonderful truth to know my journey with God will find me deeper in His love and drowning in His grace.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your endless kindness and enduring love. I will forever praise You. Amen.
