The written breath of God.
Matthew 24:35
35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (NIV)
To live in the eternal is to live above the slog of this life. It is to occupy another dimension that touches the Earth without effect. Like Christ walking the waves, the firmness of our spirit remains unmoved by the issues we encounter. Jesus taught us to pray for the Kingdom of God to come, to forcefully invade our earthly firmament. We need a supernatural dispensation of power to live above the fray. It is the written breath of God.
In the beginning, the Lord made the Heavens and Earth. For us, it is as if they have always been, but they had a beginning and they will end. All that we see around us in this realm will come to an end one day. This earthly existence dominates our attention and fills our minds with human thoughts working like quicksand without a foundation to support us. The more we try to lift ourselves up for air, the deeper we sink. What we see all around in the Heavens and Earth is not eternal. But the Words of God have always been and will never end.
How essential is the Word of God to exist within while living above the earthly and carnal. Even nature speaks the character and power of God but fails in comparison to the Spirit-inspired Scriptures that run through us like a rushing river from eternity. It’s the manna from Heaven that preserves life in the dirt of this place. If the glory of the sunrise and the vastness of the oceans teach us the mysteries of God though they will one day pass away, how much more the Word of God that never passes away.
The Holy Spirit has told us that Scripture is God-breathed. As majestic as our world is, it was the breath of God that gave it birth. We should enjoy the gift of nature all around us, but it is not the breath of God. The breath of God, however, continually breathes in Scripture. The Bible fills us with the power that created everything we see in the Heavens and the Earth. Let us breathe deep the breath of God every day.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the eternal gift of your written breath. Let me breathe deeply Your Words. Amen.
