The Very Best

The very best

Luke 11:13
13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” (NIV)

Jesus said He is the way. He is the way to the most blessed life. But He is also the Truth reminding us the world continually presents alternative ways with promises of great blessing. These occur when we are tempted to move out of the way of God because the alternative seems better. Sometimes, we will see these alternatives and our desire is for God to give them to us because they look so good. But what we don’t know is they aren’t.

God’s desire for us to experience the fullness of His blessing will not allow Him to facilitate us settling for anything less. When we are tempted to go down these other ways that seem really good, He may close the door because His desire to give us good things is offended at the thought of His children living with less than He desires to give. We misinterpret these moments and wonder why God has not given us the desire of our hearts. It is not that God doesn’t want you to have something good. It is that God desires more than anything for you to have the very best.

How would it change your perspective to look at the next closed door, missed opportunity, unanswered prayer as God simply making sure you stay on the path to what will be better than what you desire at the moment? Do you trust Him to guide you to the most blessed life?

Don’t we do the same thing as parents? We don’t want our children to come out of high school, then work at a minimum wage job with no plans to learn a trade, start a business, or continue their education. We want to see them have the best life possible. We might entice them with free rent or even discourage them in conversations with the hopes they will choose the best path. If we do this, how much more does God? If we only understood this is what happens when it appears God has not answered our prayers, closed a door, or allowed something bad. He wants the very best and nothing less.

Prayer: Lord, let me trust You to know what is best for me. Let me find solace in unanswered prayers and hardship knowing You are guiding me to the very best. Amen.
