The Lord is with You

Zephaniah 3:17
17 The LORD your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.” (NIV)

Our human frame, I believe, severely limits our spiritual awareness. The prophet here reminds us that God is with us. In another place, the Bible teaches that God is near us. He is in us. He is ever-present. Often, however, we live as if God is somewhere else. We will talk to ourselves re-running all that stresses us out but forget that we could be speaking to the Lord. He is with us.

He is with you right now. He is next to you. He is in you. He is waiting ready to listen.

What if prayer was not an event during our day, but a mindset of continual communion?

He is our friend. When something comes to your mind, tell Him. When something bothers you, tell Him. When you need something, ask. When you receive, give Him praise. We do these things well at specific times. We are good about talking to the Lord in prayer at church, before meals, and during our quiet time. But so many of life’s ups and downs are happening each day.

When you are blown away by the sunrise, give thanks to the Lord for the gift. When you are stressed at work, find a nook to pray and talk to Him. Ask specifically what you need. When you rise in the morning, ask the Lord how He is doing. See God with you everywhere You go, sitting next to you at work, riding next to you in the car, helping you cook, vegging out at the end of a long day. He is with You.

As you talk to Him as your friend, never forget that He is also a Warrior, Mighty Savior, the King of Kings, and the Creator of everything. You are not talking to your best friend from high school. You are conversing with the embodiment of all wisdom, all power, all peace, and all love.

Listen as He speaks back to you. The rain and the coolness of the day are words spoken to You. Songs, sermons, and friends will convey His message. The still small voice of the Holy Spirit within you will bring thoughts not your own. These are the words of the Almighty God. He is with you.

Prayer: Lord, teach me to converse with you as my friend, and find the peace and confidence of Heaven knowing my friend is the Great God of all. Amen.
