Social Distancing?

So I heard on the news today that social distancing is the key to stopping the spread of this new coronavirus. Well, I am no doctor and I have never played one on tv, but I don’t think that social distancing is the key. Wait a minute! Wait a minute! Don’t start a mutiny just yet. I am not saying we should not participate in all that we have been instructed to do with social distancing. I think we should, however, as believers, we must also look at things spiritually. Let me give you the Verse of the Day:
2 Chronicles 7:14
if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
God spoke this to the Israelites saying He would do this if a plague has come on the land. We must pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways. If we believe God is who He says He is in the Scripture, then we must believe that any tragedy including covid-19 has come upon us only by the Lord’s permission. Remember how Satan had to get permission from the Lord to attack Job. And if God is able to heal all sickness and disease at any moment, then He is the key much more than social distancing. Prayer is the key. Holiness is the key.
Sickness comes upon this land from three different sources according to Scripture. First, when sin entered into Adam, the earth was corrupted and now we have sickness and disease. There will be no sickness in Heaven (Revelation 21:4) and there was no sickness in the Garden of Eden. But when sin entered into the world sin did as well. Sin is not simply what we do, but our state of being. It is a separation from the Lord. Because God has not yet given the full punishment for sin (this will come in the final judgment (Revelation 20:11-14)), we are not completely separated from Him so that even the worst sinner can hear His call to their soul. But to the degree to which man has been separated has allowed the enemy to corrupt the earth and one result is sickness and disease coming upon us.
Also God allows sickness at times to reveal His glory. Such was the case of the man born blind (John 9:3). He allows sickness for the purpose of discipline. This was the case of both Job and Paul (2 Corinthians 12:7-9). And sin is allowed because of sin. There was a man who had been an invalid for 38 years. Christ healed him then told him to stop sinning or something worse would happen to him (John 5:14).
I am not trying to suggest for which of these the coronavirus has come upon our world or any particular person. Each individual is different. The point I am making is that God is our healer no matter the reason sickness comes upon us. When the people of God turn from their wickedness, pray, and seek to be in His presence, the Lord has promised to heal our land. Maybe we should spend more time praying and less time inundating ourselves with the secular perspective of the covid-19?
We are never victims. The Lord is our Protector. He is our Great Physician. He is greater than any sickness, disease, epidemic, or pandemic. He is God over all. Let’s be safe. Let’s be wise, but let’s not let fear distract us from the Lord. Instead, let us draw near to the healing hand of our God.
