Right where we need to be.
Psalms 119:105
105 Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path. (NIV)
Life is confusing. Following God’s direction can be very confusing. It might seem that we are not hearing from God or that He is not making Himself clear to us, but this is according to His design for the development of our faith. Our faith will move us right where we need to be.
When God called Abram, the call was to go to a place where God would show him. In other words, God called him to move his entire family to a new city, new country but did not tell Abram where it was.
Following the Lord is a skill we learn step by step. It’s the only way to learn because, many times, this is all God gives us. He doesn’t always reveal the outcome or the exact reaction we should have. Instead, He gives us the Word revealing the next step which could be to simply wait and do nothing. Let me go deeper.
Imagine a relationship issue with a relative and you don’t know if it is time to love that person from a distance or try one more time to reconcile. You know God wants us to be at peace with everyone, but we also know He doesn’t want us to cast our stones before swine. In other words, He doesn’t want us to let someone trample on us over and over again because we are precious to Him. So then, what do we do?
The answer may be to wait for the next conversation, to be loving (1 Corinthians 13:4-8) toward them in that conversation. From there, the Spirit may make you aware of what to do next.
The Lord may not make it clear that it is time for a new job, but He may reveal the next step is advocating for yourself because He allows you to see that you are being undervalued. Testing the spirit of that conversation with the Word will help you to know what to do next or what not to do.
In the end, there is a response to every circumstance that allows us to love God, love our neighbor, love our enemy, and love ourselves all at the same time. The Word of God helps us to do this which is why we need to know these principles. When we learn to do this, God will guide us right where we need to be.
Prayer: Lord, help me not to stress when I don’t know what to do and help me to focus on how to respond in love to You, my neighbors, my enemies, and myself. Then, I trust You to guide me where I need to be. Amen.
