Looking Into the Mirror

There was blood running like a small river down the side of my face. I hadn’t felt it. I didn’t even know it was there and I was about to walk out the door and go to work. The blood would have quickly run down my face and ruined my brand-spanking-new Walmart shirt. What a waste it would have been! Thankfully, as I was making the last walkthrough of the house turning out lights before I left for work, I reached into the bathroom and looked into the mirror and saw the blood. But what if I had never looked into the mirror? I would have been like that bloody horror figure. I would have frightened my staff. They would have run out of the church with screams and shrills afraid of the blood-covered monster 🙂

10 STEPS TO LIVING IN THE ABUNDANCE
OF GOD’S PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE
You all know that I shave my head and I realized I had missed a part so I quickly picked up the razor to skim over that one small area and I guess I had knicked myself, but I didn’t realize it until I saw myself in the mirror.
I know that doesn’t seem spiritual at all, but let’s look at our Verse of the Day:
James 1:22-24
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
(NIV)
When we only listen to the Word of God but make no attempt to follow it, it is like having blemishes on our face, or even blood running down our cheek, but we don’t know it so we don’t do anything about it. When we put forth the effort to obey the Lord, then we are addressing the spiritual blemishes in our life. Until we actually try to obey, we don’t see into our spirit the ugliness that will keep us from obeying. Until you try to forgive someone who has hurt you, you will not see the spiritual blemish of unforgiveness. You can just go on as if everything is fine meanwhile blood is running down your face. Until you actually try to use your words only for building others up, you may not see the blemish of selfishness, unforgiveness, lack of control. Obedience to the Word is like looking into the mirror so that spiritual blemishes, pimples, and even shaving knicks can be dealt with.
If you are reading the Bible, going to church, attending a Bible study, but you are not trying to put into practice what you are hearing, you may be scaring those around you by the blood running down your face and you don’t even know it. Listen to the Word, then do your very best to do what it says. In this way, you will become more and more beautiful every single day.
Live Blessed and Be a Blessing!
