He watches over us.

He watches over us.

Psalms 1:6
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. (NIV)

So much of our worry comes from the pressure we feel to make the right decisions. Do I do this or not? Do I go here or there? Do I confront or forget? In my first book, Prepare for Greater Things, I think how nice it might be if God’s hand appeared to write me a note. He does not do this. There is no Biblical formula given to help us to navigate our dilemmas. But He watches over us.

It is important to note that sin has corrupted our spirituality so that we are blind to what is good and right. Because the state of our soul will remain with sin until we rest eternally in our glorified bodies absent of sin, even if God were to tell us directly what to do, our emotions would create conflict and confusion.

God’s answer to this is to watch over the life and decisions of the righteous. The righteous need not suffer the pressure of making the right decision all the time. God knows when we will make poor decisions and weaves these into a path that will still lead us to abundant life. The key however is righteousness.

If one of the choices is sinful, it will lead to destruction, but righteousness is first given to us by credit. The Bible says God credited Abraham as righteous because of His faith. So, righteousness begins with faith. James then goes further teaching the evidence of faith is obedience. But how can we obey when we don’t know specifically what God desires?

The Word of God leads us like a lamp unto our feet. In other words, it is one step at a time. We don’t need to be afraid if a step is wrong. If we are doing our best to trust God and please Him, then a wrong step is only a place of revelation. That step may reveal to us we need to move in a different direction. It may reveal we need to keep moving in the same direction. Or it may reveal our need to keep waiting on the Lord as we move forward trusting He will show us if we need to change direction. In any of these scenarios, we need not worry. He watches over us.

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust You one step at a time and may fear not overtake me. Amen.
