God’s Hidden Plan

Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (NIV)

Today, we are reminded of God’s Hidden Plan.

The Lord has already created a plan for your life. It is a good plan to prosper and never harm. He tells us straight out that He has a plan for our future to give us hope as we journey this life. He tells us He has a plan. He tells us it is a good plan, but do you ever wish He would tell us what the plan is?

When we accept that God is omniscient and He has a plan for our life to be good, then it is only logical that our life is supposed to be good. In fact, He has embedded within our nature a desire for a good life. These two things, His plan, and our desire create a drive in us to go after the good life. The problem is that we don’t know the plan. We don’t know the path to this good life.

Why won’t He just show us the plan right now so we can follow it?

Ultimately, the plan of God has its foundation in a relationship with Him. This relationship establishes His eternal plan for our souls. Eternity is His highest priority and should be ours. This means our relationship with Him should be our highest priority. But this drive for the good life that God intends to drive us to Him as the mapmaker can also cause us, even as Christians, to prioritize the good life more than the relationship.

The Holy Spirit is our guide, but He reveals God’s path for us like a lamp unto our feet. It’s as if we are walking in the dark. The Spirit gives us light to know our next step, so we don’t stumble. We can’t see far down the path. We don’t know what the future holds. But when we trust God as the One who has mapped out the path, then we will stay near to Him. When our priority is our relationship with God, His plan will be revealed to us one step at a time. If our priority is the good life and what we want right now, we are just walking in the dark.

God doesn’t show us the plan so we will stay near Him to secure eternal life later and abundant life now.

Prayer: Lord, help me to prioritize my relationship with You more than I go after what I think will make my life better. Amen.

I believe He only shows us as much as we can handle.

This is true. He shows us only the next step to keep us dependent upon us. But you bring up a good point in that often if He showed us the full extent of hard times to come that are necessary for our development, we would be tempted to give up. Great thought Susan!
