Each Piece of Armor Is Consequential

Each piece of the armor is consequential.

Ephesians 6:12-13
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (NIV)

There is such significance of each piece of the armor, and it does us well to understand the spiritual implications of each. But for today, let’s focus on the pieces of armor.

The God who has designed our existence has done so in continual renewals. Each day is new. Each week. Each month. Each season. Each year. His mercies are new every morning. He assures us that as surely as the sun will rise tomorrow, He will come to our rescue. He taught us to ask for our daily bread. The spiritual life is one lived fresh every day. What we do today, we still need to do again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next. This is the nature of our spiritual journey.

We need to armor up every single day. Every day, we need to remind ourselves that we have been saved, that we are the righteousness of God by faith. We must continually walk the path of truth with the Word of God unsheathed ready for battle.

The enemy is described as a roaring lion waiting to pounce. Lions in the wild sneak up on their prey in stealth until they can almost leap on them before they ever see what’s coming. This is our enemy. He does not fight fair. He hides in the corners of our life inching ever closer until he attacks ferociously. We never see it coming.

Each piece of the armor is important. Are there any areas of your spiritual life being neglected? Maybe you pray each day, but are you in the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God? Maybe you are certain of your salvation and your helmet is in place, but have you shared your testimony to guard your feet from the traps left in the swampy high grass where the enemy plays.

Some might be tempted to say, “But I know that God has me. I know He will rescue me.” The Lord is our Rescuer, no doubt. But His plan for you is not repeated capture and torture to be rescued yet again. His plan for you is to win the battle. Each part of the armor is Christ laid upon your soul in different ways to protect from the wiles of the devil.

Prayer: Lord, help me with the discipline I need to put on the whole armor of God each morning. Amen.

Ours is a spiritual battle, isn’t it? But our Supreme Leader will always be the winner and I plan to stay of that side! We are so blessed, so loved!

Amen to that! As long as we stay on the winning side, we are going to be alright! To God be the glory! Love that comment M.J.
